OANSA: Community Clean-Up, Before.

November 15, 2012

A small playground stands (some of it anyway) in the center of our OANSA neighborhood, sad, neglected, and dilapidated. It also provides quite the array of safety hazards that are clearly ideal for a children’s entertainment center. I have heard countless stories behind scars and battle wounds that are a result of this rundown ramshackle.

So our group of OANSA leaders along with several of the older kids banded together one Saturday to clean this place up. Of course, that went down in typical Paraguayan fashion and naturally almost nothing went according to plan, but that’s a story for another blog entry.

In the meantime, check out photos taken before beautification measures began.

Overgrown weeds galore and a sad looking paint job.

Shards of broken glass, trash, charcoal, and cigarettes.

A well-supported swing set.

Protruding nails and sharp, gaping holes on the raised platform.

Jagged openings on the bottom of the slide.

Broken glass everywhere.

A decomposing armchair…?
