Lima Diaries: Huaca Ruins.

September 16, 2012

There are a number of huacas or ruins scattered about Lima. I have been told that since they were so numerous, modern city development simply choose which places to continue preserving and which to build over. As result, through wanderings about the city, fenced off locations of amazing ancient structures still strong in their structures can be occasionally encountered–in residential neighborhoods, near shopping centers, next to skate parks even.

The particular ruins we found were constructed by a pre-Inca society established around 100 A.D. to 650 A.D. in what is now modern day Lima. It is mind-blowing to me that something built so long ago has managed to withstand time in such a way to remain so well-preserved.
