Lima Diaries: Beach Walk by Night.

September 16, 2012

It is humid here too.

G’s friend J and his sister R took us on a nightwalk along the coastline of Lima near their house. What is interesting about the beach here is that instead of sand and palm trees, there are smooth stones, futbol fields, and lots of construction projects.

R informed us that until a few months ago, the stretch of beach close to their neighborhood was no man’s land, inhabited largely by an indigent population and robust drug activity. When we went, shiny sidewalks abounded and sleek new apartment high rises formed the skyline. Brightly colored flower beds brought flavor to the grass lawn patches and modern sculptures donated by Palestine gave the whole area a polished, upscale feel.

I really live in a forsaken land. Get with it, Paraguay!
