Slum Kind of Wonderful

September 11, 2011

I know, the title of this entry is terrible.

The above painting was originally supposed to be for B’s old room. But then I accidentally took three and a half years to finish it. Oops. You can check out my Facebook album for an inside look at the multi-step creative process.

Conceptually, the painting is a bit more straightforward. It is clear to B and I that God has instilled in us hearts for the poor and passions to champion social justice, both on a longer-term scale as well as in everyday ways. My take on a Brazilian slum was to serve as a visual reminder for us to make daily decisions to actively love God and love others.

Here’s to trying our best.
